Media Advisory: CUPE to hold strike schools for Queens Manor employees

LIVERPOOL, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwired - Jan. 17, 2014) - CUPE Local 2648 will be holding three strike schools tomorrow for employees of Queens Manor.

The schools are being held at the Brooklyn Community Hall. The first one begins at 10 am, the second at 1 pm and the third at 7:15 pm.

CUPE Union Development Representative Lynn McDougall and CUPE National Representative Marianne Welsh will be assisting the almost 60 nursing home workers prepare for a possible strike by guiding them through the union's strike manual. This includes details of how they would receive strike pay and benefits, picketing protocols and so on.

Local 2648 voted 98% in favour of job action in a strike vote held on August 25th. The union and employer have agreed to resume conciliation talks on January 28th.
