Media Advisory: CUPE to Open New, LEED-Certified Atlantic Regional Office

HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwire - Sept. 24, 2010) - The first-ever LEED-Certified union building in Atlantic Canada will officially open its doors on Monday, September 27th.

Canada's largest union, the Canadian Union of Public Employees, will host an open house from 1:00-4:00 pm at 271 Brownlow Avenue (corner of Brownlow and Eileen Stubbs) in Burnside Park.

The union is relocating from its longtime spot at Bayers Rd. Village and moving into a state-of-the-art, environmentally-friendly new space that is four times the size of its old office.

LEED stands for Leadership in Environmental Engineering and Design. It is given to building projects that have demonstrated a commitment to sustainability by meeting higher performance standards in environmental responsibility and energy efficiency.

There are three levels of certification; Platinum, Gold and Silver. CUPE will be applying for Gold Certification for the new regional office.
