Media Advisory: DFO Holding 2005 Seal Forum

ST. JOHN'S, NEWFOUNDLAND--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 4, 2005) - Groups and individuals with an interest in the seal fishery have been invited to participate in the 2005 Seal Forum, hosted next week by Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO).

The two-day forum, November 7 and 8, is being held at the Delta St. John's Hotel and Conference Centre. It brings together a variety of seal industry stakeholders from across Canada to provide meaningful input concerning various elements of the seal hunt as well as to consult on the development of a new multi-year management plan.

No final decisions on the management plan will be made at the forum. PRAXIS Research and Consulting Inc., an independent facilitator, will write a report for DFO based on the consultations.

Media interviews with DFO officials can be arranged during the forum by calling NL Communications at (709) 772-7631.

Media will be allowed to enter the meeting room prior to the start of the first session to gather footage for their reports, and will be asked to leave prior to the start of the session.
