Media Advisory: Donation Opportunities Abound at the Food Bank

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Dec. 15, 2011) -

'Twas the week before Christmas, and we were feeling the joy;
With gifts of good food, for each girl and boy.

It's a busy time at the Food Bank, this time of year; but you know that already!

By unanimous vote at the Food Bank, we've decided that our donors are the best donors in Calgary! In these final weeks of December, there are many Calgarians collecting food and cash donations for the Calgary Food Bank. Without their efforts, where would we be?

If you have a moment to spare, check out one of these spectacular events:

Amble with Angus

WHEN: Friday December 16, 7am (registration); 7:30am (ambling begins)

WHERE: The arches at Eau Claire

WHAT: Amble with Angus, an annual fun run in support of the Calgary Food Bank's Children's Milk Program, is marking its 10th year. At 7:30am, Calgarians will brave the cold, running (or ambling!) five kilometers to raise funds. Visit www.amblewithangus.com for more information.

18 Wheels of Christmas

WHEN: Monday Dec 19 5:30pm

WHERE: Calgary Food Bank

WHAT: Led by Roseneau Transport, the transportation industry has collected donations for the Calgary Food Bank. Santa makes this special delivery himself in his 53-foot, 18-Wheels-of-Christmas trailer, bedecked in Christmas lights, and full to the brim with non-perishable food donations. Last year, Santa delivered more than $40,000 worth of food and funds to help feed hungry Calgarians.

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, when they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky;
So up to the dock door the trailer will roll, with a load full of food, and a driver so droll.

Calgary Flames - Celebrate the City

WHEN: Tuesday December 20

WHERE: Scotiabank Saddledome

WHAT: On December 20th, during the Flames vs Minnesota Wild game, the Flames will be recognizing the contribution to the community made by the Calgary Food Bank. Ticket holders are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food donation. Volunteers will be on hand to accept food and cash donations at the concourse entrances on December 20.

CMDA Cavalcade of Cans (part of the Mayor's Annual Christmas Food Drive)

WHEN: Wednesday December 22, 10:30am
