OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 7, 2009) - Shortly after Statistics Canada releases its monthly Labour Force Survey on Friday, May 8, Canadian Labour Congress Senior Economist Sylvain Schetagne will be available by telephone to the media. He is a specialist regarding the Canadian labour market.

The unemployment situation has become worse in each of the past seven months. There is a national consensus emerging that the Employment Insurance system is broken and must be fixed. The Prime Minister and his cabinet seem to be the only ones prepared to allow unemployed Canadians to fend for themselves.
