Media Advisory: Ensuring Students Return to School With Their Heads Held High

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Aug. 20, 2013) - It's back-to-school season and hundreds of Ottawa parents are struggling to obtain school essentials for their children. For many years, local retailer Giant Tiger has facilitated the assistance provided to these low-income families by the Caring and Sharing Exchange, during the Christmas and back-to-school seasons, by means of a redeemable gift-voucher.

What: Giant Tiger will donate five hundred backpacks to the Sharing in Student Success program, run by the Caring and Sharing Exchange. These backpacks will be distributed to a dozen local agencies that work with the Caring and Sharing Exchange, including Samaritan Support Services of Ottawa-Carleton and the Caldwell Family Centre. Representatives from these two agencies will be in attendance at the event.
Where: At the Giant Tiger Head Office, 2480 Walkley Road
When: Wednesday August 21st 2013 at 9:00 AM - The Giant Tiger mascot will be in attendance at 9:00 AM to present the backpacks to the charity.
Why: One in five children in Ottawa is currently living in poverty. This generous donation will bring the Caring and Sharing Exchange one step closer to helping all the children who ask for it during this back-to-school season.

Backpacks will be stuffed with supplies and distributed to participating agencies early next week.
