Media Advisory: First Guard Mount of 2015 on Parliament Hill


OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 24, 2015) - Media are invited to attend the first Guard Mount ceremony of the 2015 season, on the East Lawn of Parliament Hill on Sunday, June 28, at 10 a.m.

This event is performed by the Ceremonial Guard, a composite military unit of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). Recognized by their distinctive red tunic and bearskin hats of the Governor General's Foot Guards of Ottawa and the Canadian Grenadier Guards of Montreal, the Ceremonial Guard is an icon of both the City of Ottawa and the CAF.

When: Sunday, June 28, 2015 at 10 a.m.
Where: East Lawn, Parliament Hill
What: The first Guard Mount ceremony of the 2015 summer season.

The Ceremonial Guard performs a variety of public duties and ceremonial activities in the National Capital Region. The 2015 season begins June 28 and ends August 22. In addition to the daily Guard Mount ceremonies on Parliament Hill, the unit performs hourly sentry duties at Rideau Hall (from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). The Ceremonial Guard is also responsible for the sailors, soldiers, and airmen and airwomen assigned to stand guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, as part of the National Sentry Program, which began this year on April 9th.
