Media Advisory: First Guard Mount on Parliament Hill of 2014


OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 23, 2014) - Media are invited to attend the first Guard Mount ceremony of the 2014 summer tourist season, on the East Lawn of Parliament Hill on Tuesday, June 24, at 10 a.m.

This event is performed by the Ceremonial Guard, a military public duties unit of the Canadian Armed Forces. Recognized by their distinctive red tunic and bearskin hats, the Ceremonial Guard is an icon of Ottawa and the Canadian Armed Forces.

Where: East Lawn, Parliament Hill
Date: Tuesday, June 24, 2014
Time: 10 a.m.

The Ceremonial Guard performs a variety of ceremonial functions in Ottawa and across Canada. The season begins in late June and ends in late August. In addition to the daily Guard Mount ceremonies on Parliament Hill, the unit performs hourly sentry duties at Rideau Hall (from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Ceremonial Sentries at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier are expected to resume their duties on August 4 upon completion of renovations to the National War Memorial.
