Media Advisory: Fisheries and Oceans Canada Officials Available to Speak on Canada's Approach to Protecting Vulnerable Marine Areas

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 9, 2006) - Media are invited to participate in a technical briefing to discuss Canada's position regarding the protection of vulnerable marine areas. This issue is part of the debate at the United Nations General Assembly concerning a sustainable fisheries resolution.

Lori Ridgeway, Director General of International Co-ordination and Policy Affairs at Fisheries and Oceans Canada, will deliver a short statement, which will be followed by a question and answer period. She will be joined by other DFO officials, including David Bevan, Assistant Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Management, and Hugh Bain, Senior Advisor of Habitat Science. Officials from Foreign Affairs Canada will also be present.
