Media Advisory: Francophone UNESCO School's First Day at New Campus

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - April 16, 2014) - Members of the media are invited to join as the students enter their much-anticipated new school for the first time.

On Wednesday, April 16, there will be an opening ceremony lead by Mr. Martin Camirand, Principal of the school, whereby each teacher will have their Mini United Nations flags to represent their respective classrooms.

Upon entry of the new building, participants will head to the heart of our new school in the agora renamed "red square" out of respect for tradition. Children will then sing the theme song: Toi + Moi Grégoire. Students will then be given their first tour of the new building.

The school's older infrastructure was only able to accommodate 240 students from kindergarten to Grade 9 and was made up entirely of portables. For the past year, the school was based out of the Airdrie Genesis Recreation Center and its portables due to lack of space.

École Francophone d'Airdrie, a UNESCO school (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization) puts a very strong focus on human rights issues. Learning within this school involves interdependence within a healthy environment where students know, understand and respect one another.

Each interacting member of our learning community evolves and develops their potential in order to progress, with autonomy to success and to thus develop critical thinking as an active global citizen.

This new school will provide students will a library, a cafeteria and a gymnasium all of which are not available at the school's current location. The new building will accommodate up to 400 students from kindergarten to Grade 12.
