Media Advisory/Fraser Institute Founder Michael Walker Defends Capitalism at Behind the Spin: Fraser @ Centini

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - May 11, 2009) - The economic system of private ownership of capital and free voluntary exchange known as capitalism is the source of our immense economic and social prosperity. If the economic freedom enshrined in capitalism is good for the economic and social well-being of individuals, why are governments moving away from free markets in this time of financial instability?

Join Michael Walker, renowned economist and Fraser Institute founder, for a discussion on how governments around the world are dealing with the financial turmoil and the consequences of abandoning free market principles during the third evening of the 2009 spring cocktail series, Behind the Spin: Fraser @ Centini Tuesday, May 12.

Walker is a senior fellow at the Fraser Institute and president of the Fraser Institute Foundation. He served as executive director of the Fraser Institute from its establishment in 1974 until 2005. He has written or edited 50 books on economic matters and writes regularly for daily newspapers and financial periodicals.

The Fraser Institute's Behind the Spin cocktail series offers a unique opportunity to discuss an array of issues with opinion-makers whose leadership on key topics informs the news and public debate. The series is hosted by well-known commentator Danielle Smith.
