Media Advisory: Fraser Institute to Release Alberta Elementary Schools Rankings Sunday, March 13

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - March 11, 2011) - The Fraser Institute will release the 10th edition of its annual Report Card on Alberta's Elementary Schools on Sunday, March 13 at 6:30 a.m. (Mountain).

The report card allows anyone to quickly and easily compare 654 Alberta elementary schools based on seven key indicators of academic performance derived from the results of provincewide testing.

The report card displays school results for the past five years, indicating whether a school has improved or declined on any of seven key indicators over time. The report card also contains valuable demographic information about each school, including average parental income and percentage of ESL and special needs students enrolled, adding context to the rankings.

A news release with additional information will be issued via Marketwire on Sunday, March 13 at 6:30 a.m. (Mountain).

School results will be published in the Calgary Herald and the Edmonton Sun the day of the release.

Detailed results for individual schools will also be available in an interactive and searchable format at www.compareschoolrankings.org.

Peter Cowley and Mike Thomas, Fraser Institute director and associate director of school performance studies and co-authors of the report card, will be in Calgary and available for media interviews the day of the release.
