Media Advisory - Fraser Institute to release new study on high earner pay in Ontario hospitals

TORONTO, May 6 - On Monday, May 9 at 5am (Eastern), The Fraser
Institute will release Buying Health Change? The 2005 Survey of High Earner
Pay in Ontario's Hospitals, an assessment of how labour compensation affects
health care costs and patient access to care.
Ontario spends $33 billion on public sector health programs and hospital
payrolls are an enormous component of these costs. This report examines
hospital pay for high earners -- those making over $100,000 a year. A value
for money assessment compares this pay to hospital measures of output and
patient care. The implications of pay trends for health care costs and
accessibility are outlined. The report recommends major reforms to save money
and improve patient care.
