Media Advisory: Fraser Institute to Release Results of Poll on BC Parents' Opinion of School Rankings and FSA

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - April 15, 2008) - The Fraser Institute will release the results of a new poll gauging the opinions of BC parents about the education ministry's Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA) and the use of the results in school rankings at a news conference on Thursday, April 17 at 10 am at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.

The poll was conducted on behalf of the Institute by public opinion research firm Compas Inc. Public Opinion and Customer Research.

"The Fraser Institute school report cards and school rankings have always had strong support among parents. But the voices of most parents have not been heard during the teachers' union's campaign to eliminate the province-wide FSA and school rankings," said Peter Cowley, Fraser Institute director of school performance studies.

"The results of this poll express the opinions of parents across BC and we think it's time they are listened to."

Cowley, along with Compas Inc. president Dr. Conrad Winn, will be present at the news conference and available for media interviews.
