Media Advisory : Georgetti to Attend Ottawa Support Rally for Nortel Pensioners

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 20, 2009) - Ken Georgetti, President of the Canadian Labour Congress, will attend a Parliament Hill rally on Wednesday, October 21 in support of Nortel pensioners. Georgetti will be among those speaking and will be available for comments to the media.

The rally will focus on the impact of Nortel's bankruptcy and sell off on the company's pensioners, terminated and disabled employees.

Nortel's former employees believe that they have been victimized by the federal government's mistakes and inaction.

The Canadian Labour Congress has a plan to rebuild and reform the pension system and has launched a national campaign to keep pressure on governments to take action. The CLC wants an expanded Canada Pension Plan, improved Old Age Security, and a national system of pension insurance.
