Media Advisory: Get a Sneak Peek at MADD Canada's Latest Film for Students

OAKVILLE, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 4, 2012) - Long weekends at the cottage mean sunshine, afternoons on the lake and campfires. But when people mix alcohol and/or drugs with driving, these weekends can also mean crumpled cars, injuries and deaths. Long Weekend, MADD Canada's latest School Assembly Program, takes students on a weekend getaway that quickly turns to tragedy when an impaired young man gets behind the wheel.

MADD Canada is hosting a sneak peek at Long Weekend this Wednesday. Media are welcome to attend this special screening:

Date: Wednesday, June 6, 2012 - Welcome and refreshments at 7 p.m. / Screening at 7:30 p.m.
Location: Silvercity Oakville - 3531 Wyecroft Rd, Oakville, Ontario
Guests: Guests will include members of the cast and crew, MADD Canada representatives, program sponsors, and community partner representatives from local police and fire departments and EMS.

The show officially debuts at the start of the 2012-2013 school year in September, when it will begin a cross-Canada tour to more than 1 million students.

In Long Weekend, viewers join Brian, his brother Malcolm, girlfriend Jessica and best friend Raj on a trip to the cottage. The friends are drinking, smoking joints and making increasingly risky decisions. The weekend takes a horrific turn when an impaired Brian drives into town with Jessica. The fictional story is followed by the real-life stories of three people who were killed in impaired driving crashes.

Road crashes are the number one cause of death among young people in Canada and approximately 50% of these deaths are alcohol-related. The School Assembly Program is a cornerstone of MADD Canada's youth services. By presenting students with solid information and best practices to help them understand the issue of alcohol and/or drug impaired driving, MADD Canada hopes to enlist all young people in the effort to end impaired driving.
