Media Advisory: Governor General to Attend the Unveiling of the Royal Wedding Coins at the Royal Canadian Mint

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 4, 2011) - His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will attend the ceremony for the unveiling of the Royal Wedding coins on Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at 10 a.m., at the Royal Canadian Mint, in Ottawa (320 Sussex Drive).

For this special occasion, His Excellency will deliver an address and strike a Royal Wedding coin minted in honour of His Royal Highness Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton's wedding.

At the opening ceremonies for the Ottawa branch of the Royal Mint on January 2, 1908, former governor general Earl Grey struck the Dominion's first domestically produced coin: a silver 50-cent piece bearing the effigy of His Majesty King Edward VII. For more information, visit
