Media Advisory: Governor General to be Keynote Speaker at the Gairdner Foundation Annual Awards Dinner

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 26, 2010) - His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will attend the Gairdner Foundation Annual Awards Dinner at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto on Thursday, October 28, 2010, at 6:45 p.m.

During the event, at approximately 7:45 p.m., His Excellency will deliver a keynote address on the important leadership role the Gairdner Foundation plays in recognizing innovative research, as well as the value of science research to Canada. He will also present the 2010 Canada Gairdner Wightman Award to Dr. Cal Stiller, at approximately 10:15 p.m. The speeches and the presentation of the awards will be open to the media.

About the Gairdner Foundation and the Canada Gairdner Awards

Created in 1957 by Toronto stockbroker James Arthur Gairdner (1893-1971), the Gairdner Foundation exists to recognize and reward the achievements of medical researchers whose work contributes significantly to improving the quality of human life.

The Canada Gairdner Awards recognize scientific discoveries from every field of bioscience. The Canada Gairdner Wightman Award gives particular recognition to Canadian leaders in medical science.
