Media Advisory: Governor General to Deliver a Speech in Kitchener on the Occasion of a Conference on Violence Against Women

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 22, 2008) - Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean, Governor General of Canada, will deliver a speech on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at the Communities Working Together to End Violence Against Women Conference, presented by the Family Violence Project of Waterloo Region. This two-day conference will take place at Bingemans Conference Centre, in Kitchener, Ontario.

Her Excellency will talk about the importance of mobilization and solidarity to put an end to violence against women, at 12 p.m., in Marshall Hall, at Bingemans Conference Centre (425 Bingemans Centre Drive). Media will be able to cover the speech and need to be on site as of 11:45 a.m.

As part of her regional visit to Kitchener, the Governor General will also visit the Catholic Family Counselling Centre (CFCC) (400 Queen Street South). She will tour the grounds of this family resource centre and meet with personnel. Following the visit, a private discussion with students from the school of social work of Wilfrid Laurier University and representatives of CFCC specialized in women abuse prevention will take place at 2 p.m. Media will be able to cover Her Excellency's arrival at the centre, at 1:35 p.m., and should be on site for 1:20 p.m. Please note that the discussion will be closed to media.
