Media Advisory: Governor General to Honour Acts of Bravery During Visit to the Citadelle of Quebec

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 26, 2011) - Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston will stay at the official residence of the Citadelle of Québec, from February 4 to 8, 2011.

During that visit, the Governor General will present the Commander-in-Chief Unit Commendation to the 3rd Battalion of the Royal 22e Régiment Battle Group, which displayed extraordinary tenacity and courage during confrontations with insurgents in Afghanistan. He will also present decorations for bravery to individuals who risked their lives to try to save or protect another person.

"Courage sometimes leads us to surpass ourselves and make heroic acts. Whether during a mission in Afghanistan or simply in wanting to come to the aid of a neighbour in distress, the true value of these outstanding acts is worthy of recognition. That is why I am proud to honour these individuals who have demonstrated bravery and excellence, while putting their own lives at risk," said His Excellency.

Their Excellencies will host a presentation of credentials ceremony, meet with the Mayor of Québec, and attend Québec Winter Carnival activities. They will also visit the city of La Pocatière to tour higher education institutions and centres of innovation specializing in the agri-food and biofood development sectors.

The detailed itinerary of this visit will be released at a later date.
