Media advisory: Governor General Launches Canadian Tulip Festival's Celebridee

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - May 3, 2007) - Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean, Governor General of Canada, will launch the 55th season of the Canadian Tulip Festival by hosting the opening program of Celebridee at Rideau Hall on Saturday, May 5, 2007 at 2 p.m.

Celebridee, a new Canadian Tulip Festival event, will showcase the excitement and power of ideas in provocative presentations at venues throughout the National Capital Region. Internationally acclaimed Canadian author Margaret MacMillan will be guest "provocateur", as some of Canada's most exciting thinkers discuss The Power of Ideas in the bilingual opening session. Panelists will include Boris Castel, Michael Geist, Joseph Gosnell, Antonia Maioni, Ann Medina and Nicholas Pullen and the discussion will be moderated by Roch Carrier.

May 5 also marks the annual opening of Rideau Hall's Visitor Centre. Rideau Hall, the official residence and workplace of all governors general since 1867, is located just minutes from downtown Ottawa and is set in 32 hectares of beautifully landscaped grounds and gardens. In May, the Visitor Centre is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors may tour the residence on weekends from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on weekdays, by reservation.
