Media Advisory: Governor General to Participate in a Panel Discussion on the Changing Landscape of Volunteering in Canada

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 6, 2010) - His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will take part in a panel discussion hosted by Volunteer Canada, on the theme of "The Changing Landscape of Volunteering in Canada." The discussion will take place on Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at 1:30 p.m., in the salon (3rd floor), at the Canadian Museum of Nature, in Ottawa.

His Excellency will deliver remarks on the fundamental value of volunteerism in our society and how helping one another is an essential act of citizenship in building a smart and caring nation. The Governor General will be joined by four panellists, each representing key sectors in volunteerism—baby boomers, families, youth and employer-supported volunteers— to discuss the importance of volunteering in Canada. The dialogue will be followed by a question period with members of the audience. The event is being held on the occasion of the release of Volunteer Canada's latest findings on the volunteer experience in Canada.
