Media Advisory: Governor General to Speak During Qikiqtani Regional Teachers' Conference

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Feb. 17, 2015) - His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will address over 400 teachers from Nunavut during the Qikiqtani Regional Teachers' Conference, via telepresence from Ottawa, on Thursday, February 19, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. On this occasion, he will also have a chance to engage with participants.

"Canada's North itself is something of a giant classroom where the learning never ends-nor should it," said the Governor General. "I am looking forward to participating in this telepresence and recognizing the great work being done by teachers in the North, in a region that presents unique opportunities and challenges to teachers and students alike."

The Qikiqtani Regional Teachers' Conference is organized by the Nunavut Teachers' Association to provide teachers in the Far North with professional growth opportunities to make education in Nunavut the best that it can possibly be.

The two-way video communication between His Excellency and the conference participants will be facilitated through the Connected North network, which helps enhance education and health care services in Canada's northern communities.

Members of the media are invited to attend the telepresence in person at Cisco's Ottawa Regional Office, Suite 1710, 340 Albert Street. Please confirm your presence in advance as space is limited. Media should arrive no later than 8:45 a.m.
