Media Advisory: Governor General to Take Part in Commemoration of the Lac-Megantic Tragedy

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - July 4, 2014) - Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston will visit Lac-Mégantic on Sunday, July 6, 2014, to take part in a commemoration of the tragedy that took place in the town on July 6, 2013.

Their Excellencies will first attend a memorial mass at Sainte-Agnès Catholic Church (4872 Laval St.), at 11 a.m. Following the mass, a new monument will be unveiled in front of the church to pay tribute to the 47 people who were killed in the disaster. His Excellency will then lay a wreath at the monument, on behalf of all Canadians. Finally, the Governor General will address the media and take part in a recognition ceremony for the first responders.
