Media Advisory: Governor General Takes Part in the International Conference on Children Exposed to Domestic Violence

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - May 7, 2007) - Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean, Governor General of Canada, will be in London, Ontario, on May 9, 2007, to address the participants of the Third International Conference on Children Exposed to Domestic Violence. The Conference runs from May 9 to 11, 2007, at the London Convention Centre. The Governor General will deliver opening remarks at 7 p.m. in the Convention Room.

The Governor General will also attend a plenary address by Dr. Jacquelyn Campbell from Johns Hopkins University, and Hero in the Shadows, a student production by Reed Needles that deals with issues of domestic violence and the effects on the family.

Earlier in the day, the Governor General will meet with 16 young women who are participating in a research project led by the Centre for Research & Education on Violence Against Women and Children, at the University of Western Ontario, for a private discussion about the project and their personal experiences.

The Conference's opening ceremonies are open to media.
