Media Advisory: Governor General to Honour Elite Student-Athletes at Rideau Hall

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Nov. 13, 2014) - His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will present the Governor General's Academic All-Canadian Commendation for the 2013-2014 season to eight recipients during a ceremony at Rideau Hall, on Monday, November 17, 2014, at 11 a.m.

The Governor General's Academic All-Canadian Commendation recognizes student-athletes who have maintained an average of 80 per cent or higher over the academic year while playing on one or more of their university's varsity teams. These "Top Eight Academic All-Canadians" are selected by Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) and its four Regional Associations.

Below is the list of the top eight 2013-2014 recipients:

  • Michelle Pryde - Acadia University - Soccer - Chemistry
  • Adrian Robertson - University of New Brunswick - Hockey - Business Administration
  • Mariam Sylla - McGill University - Basketball - Pharmacology
  • Cédric McNicoll - McGill University - Hockey - Accounting
  • Caroline Ehrhardt - Western University - Track and Field - Health Sciences
  • Tyson Hinz - Carleton University - Basketball - General Commerce
  • Brittany Habing - University of Manitoba - Volleyball - Science
  • Jordan Baker - University of Alberta - Basketball - Coaching (Graduate Studies)

Each year, over 2 800 CIS student-athletes achieve an academic average of 80 per cent or higher, demonstrating their commitment to success in the classroom as well as on the playing field. These recipients represent the best and brightest, having achieved outstanding academic success while representing their university on varsity teams.
