Media Advisory: Governor General to Participate in Remembrance Day Events in Ottawa

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 9, 2011) - Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston will participate in the following Remembrance Day events, on Friday, November 11, 2011:

National Remembrance Day Ceremony

Their Excellencies will attend the National Remembrance Day Ceremony at the National War Memorial in Ottawa.

Luncheon for the Silver Cross Mother

Their Excellencies will host a luncheon at Rideau Hall to pay tribute to this year's National Silver Cross Mother, Mrs. Patricia (Patty) Elaine Braun, whose son, Corporal David Robert William Braun, was killed by a suicide bomber in a vehicle attack while on patrol in Kandahar, Afghanistan, on August 22, 2006. Each year, the Silver Cross Mother is chosen by the Royal Canadian Legion to attend the National Remembrance Day Ceremony on behalf of all Canadian mothers who have lost children in the service to their country.
