Media Advisory: Governor General to Preside Over a Citizenship Ceremony

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Dec. 4, 2014) - His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will preside over a citizenship ceremony at Rideau Hall, on Tuesday, December 9, 2014. He will be accompanied by the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, 26th governor general of Canada, and the founder and co-chair of the Institute for Canadian Citizenship, and by Canada's Citizenship and Immigration Minister, Chris Alexander.

Prior to the ceremony, 50 candidates for Canadian citizenship will share their views on citizenship during a round-table discussion. The events are organized in partnership with Citizenship and Immigration Canada and the Institute for Canadian Citizenship.

Candidates for citizenship will participate in a round-table discussion to encourage the sharing of stories, and a collective reflection on citizenship and the day's ceremony.

Canadian Citizenship Ceremony
The Governor General will be the presiding official administering the Oath of Citizenship and conferring citizenship certificates to 50 new Canadians from 34 countries.
