OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 28, 2012) - His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will visit Nova Scotia from May 29 to June 2, 2012.

"It is a pleasure to return to Nova Scotia, where I will be delivering a keynote address on the power of learning to change lives for the better at the World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics' World Congress in Halifax. I'm also looking forward to engaging with Nova Scotians during my visit to Yarmouth, where the fishing industry is the region's vital source of economy. Being the first governor general to visit the Acadian community of Pubnico is a great honour and I'm anxious to learn more about the history of the province's oldest Acadian community and embrace its proud heritage and culture," said His Excellency.

Keynote Address at the World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics' World Congress
His Excellency will deliver a speech on the power of learning and the role of colleges and polytechnics in creating a smarter, more caring world. The Congress will attract some 800 institutional leaders, senior government officials, international partners, faculty and students from 50 different countries.
The World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics (WFCP) is an international network of colleges and college associations. The Association of Canadian Community Colleges, in collaboration with Nova Scotia Community College, is hosting the World Congress of the WFCP. Its theme, "Driving the Global Economy", will stimulate dialogue on the profound influence of education on societies, economies, and urban and rural communities. The Governor General, joined by the Mayor of Yarmouth, will meet with representatives from the business, education, culture and environment sectors to discuss how innovation can improve the social and economic development of the region. His Excellency will deliver remarks on this occasion.

His Excellency will get an overview of operations taking place in the lobster pound before heading out lobster fishing in the Harbour, an activity that is vital to the economy of Yarmouth.
