Media Advisory: Governor General to Visit Remote Communities of the Nishnawbe Aski Nation

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 8, 2007) - Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean, Governor General of Canada, will visit the communities of Wunnumin Lake and Mishkeegogamang on June 12, 2007, with the Honourable James K. Bartleman, Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario. In response to an official invitation by Nishnawbe Aski Nation Grand Chief Stan Beardy, this visit will support the Lieutenant-Governor's initiatives on literacy education in Aboriginal communities.

9:00 a.m.

Visit to Wunnumin Lake

The Governor General will visit Ecole Lydia L. Beardy Memorial School, which benefited from the Lieutenant-Governor's book drive, as well as the health centre, the daycare and the seniors' residence, before taking part in a community feast.

3:00 p.m.

Visit to Mishkeegogamang

Location: Missabay Community School

The Governor General will review a guard of honour and award military decorations. Her Excellency and the Lieutenant-Governor will then take part in a community celebration welcoming 134 Ontario First Nations Chiefs and a community feast.
