Media Advisory: Governor General's Activities in Quebec City from September 9 to 19, 2007

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 7, 2007) - Their Excellencies, the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean, Governor General of Canada, and Jean-Daniel Lafond, who will be in Quebec City and surrounding area from September 9 to 19, 2007. During their stay, they will listen to the concerns, aspirations and activities of youth, members of the military, and volunteers in the region. Their Excellencies will also host an Open House for the public at the residence of the Governor General at the Citadelle.

The following is an itinerary of the Governor General's activities.

Sunday, September 9

4:45 p.m.

Arrival at the Citadelle of Quebec

The Governor General will be greeted by the commander of the 2nd Battalion, Royal 22e Regiment. Inspection of the guard of honour.

Presentation of decorations to the Association des Scouts du Canada

The Governor General will present awards and decorations to Canadian Scouts and troops.

Tuesday, September 11

Visit to Canadian Forces Base Valcartier, followed by lunch at the officers' mess and a meeting at the Centre de la famille Valcartier.

The Governor General will visit the Canadian Forces Base and will meet the families of soldiers deployed overseas.

Visit to the Centre Jacques-Cartier

The Governor General will take part in a discussion with young people at the Jacques-Cartier residential and community centre, a non-profit organization that helps young people aged 16 to 30.

Meeting with the Armed Forces Council

The Governor General, Commander in Chief of Canada, will host the meeting of the Armed Forces Council at the Citadelle in Quebec City. The Armed Forces Council is the senior military body of the Canadian Forces. It meets regularly to advise the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) on broad military matters pertaining to the command, control, and administration of the Canadian Forces and to help the CDS make decisions.

The Governor General will receive the credentials of four new ambassadors to Canada:

- Her Excellency Emilia Maria Alvarez Navarro, Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Costa Rica

- His Excellency Brendon Browne, High Commissioner-designate for the Commonwealth of Dominica (Member of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States)

- Her Excellency Edda Mukabagwiza, Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Rwanda

- His Excellency Nokiloas Matsis, Ambassador-designate of the Hellenic Republic
