Media Advisory: Groundbreaking Ceremony for ZooShare Biogas Plant


TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - April 18, 2016) - ZooShare Biogas Co-operative Inc., together with The Toronto Zoo and Bullfrog Power, will gather near the Toronto Zoo to celebrate the groundbreaking of its construction project, the ZooShare biogas plant. The event will be attended by some of the 500 community members who have invested in the project, and will include speeches from the Minister of Energy, Bob Chiarelli, as well as the Chair of the Toronto Zoo board, Councilor Raymond Cho, and the CEO of Bullfrog Power, Ron Seftel.

The 500kW ZooShare biogas plant will recycle 3,000 tonnes of manure from the Toronto Zoo and 14,000 tonnes of food waste from local grocery stores into renewable power for the Ontario grid.

ZooShare Biogas Co-operative Inc. is a non-profit renewable energy cooperative. Through the sale of Community Bonds, ZooShare has raised nearly $3M from local investors to fund construction of the project.
