Media Advisory: Hassan Yussuff to Speak at Labour Day Picnic in Charlottetown

CLC Secretary-treasurer available for comments to media

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 31, 2010) - Hassan Yussuff, CLC Secretary-treasurer, will speak to workers and their families at a Labour Day event in Charlottetown on Monday, September 6th. The picnic is sponsored by the Prince Edward Island Federation of Labour. Yussuff will be available for comments to the media.

Canadian workers have celebrated their achievements on this day since it was declared a national holiday in 1894. This year the focus is on retirement security. The labour movement, along with retiree and community groups, has been calling for improvements to the Canada and Quebec Pension Plans because most Canadians are not able to save enough to live in dignity in retirement. The country's finance ministers now agree that the best way to help Canadians save more for retirement is through the CPP. Working people have to keep the pressure on politicians to get the job done.
