Media Advisory/'Healthy People, Healthy Future'-CMA Holds its 138th Annual Meeting in Edmonton Beginning Sunday

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 11, 2005) - The Canadian Medical Association (CMA) will hold its 138th annual meeting (General Council) in Edmonton, (AB) at the Shaw Conference, from August 14 to 17, 2005. The theme of this year's General Council is Healthy People, Healthy Future.

On Monday, the CMA will release its 5th annual National Report Card focusing on the performance of the country's health care system.

Key features of the meeting include:

- Sunday- an educational session on physician-industry
relationships with Dr. Murray Kopelow, Ms. Lori Sheremeta, and
Mr. Russ Williams; and one session exploring pan-Canadian health
goals with Dr. David Butler-Jones, Dr. John Cowell, and Dr.
Michael McGinnis.

- Monday-a keynote address by Federal Health Minister, the
Honourable Ujjal Dosanjh; a strategic session on pan-Canadian
health goals with the Honourable Dr. Carolyn Bennett; and an
educational session for physician activists moderated by Mr.
Mike Duffy and guest panelists: the Honourable Dr. Hedy Fry, Dr.
Grant Hill, and Dr. David Swann.

- Tuesday-a strategic session on the public-private interface in
health care with Senator Hugh Segal.

- Wednesday-a strategic session on health human resources with
Dr. Peter Barrett.
