Affordable Housing is the Key to Ending Homelessness Event @ Olympic Plaza


CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - Oct. 9, 2014) -

WHAT
Friday, October 10 is World Homeless Awareness Day 2014. Homeless serving sector agencies who make up the collaborative Face it Calgary!, an initiative to draw awareness to homelessness in our city, are convening with supporters at Olympic Plaza for a noon hour event. This year, the focus remains on affordable housing and what every Calgarian can do to play a part in raising awareness of the urgent need for action in increasing access and inventory in our City. The noon hour event will feature Mayor Naheed Nenshi reading the City of Calgary's Proclamation of Homeless Awareness Day along with a call to action from Diana Krecsy, President and CEO Calgary Homeless Foundation.
In addition, The Alex will announce the winners of its Planting the Seeds of Change initiative with celebrity judges determining the winner of the planter boxes that have been created by 15 agency partners, including SCORCe, Brenda's House Family Shelter and Kerby Centre.
