Media Advisory: Homeward Trust Edmonton and Community to Celebrate National Housing Day

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Nov. 21, 2011) - November 22nd marks National Housing Day in Canada, a day to recognize progress and the people and organizations that advance affordable housing. Homeward Trust Edmonton, in conjunction with community partners, is hosting the 2011 Community Summit and National Housing Day luncheon to mark this day and recognize the groups and individuals who advance housing and homelessness initiatives in our community. The events will welcome local, national and international speakers who will share best practices with the 150+ summit and luncheon attendees.

2011 Community Summit and National Housing Day Luncheon

National Housing Day Luncheon - Program: 12:00 PM; Keynote: 12:45 PM

Location: The Sutton Place Hotel, 10235, 101 Street (2nd Floor)

Mike Miller, UNITY of Greater New Orleans' director of supportive housing placement, will present a keynote address during the National Housing Day Luncheon. Mike's keynote, From Abandoned Buildings to Affordable Homes, will highlight his experience in New Orleans engaging communities and systems from the bottom up, including the additional housing challenges resulting from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and challenges of reaching the homeless population dwelling in abandoned buildings.

Susan McGee, Executive Director of Homeward Trust, will be available for interviews.

Homeward Trust Edmonton is a not for profit organization that uses a community-based approach toward the goal of ending homelessness in Edmonton. Our primary role is to coordinate response to housing needs by working together with local agencies and all orders of government.
