OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 7, 2006) - The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, will deliver opening remarks at the Roundtable on workplace productivity, at Meech Lake, (Willson House) on Friday, December 8, 2006.

Why is the Labour Program organizing this roundtable ?

- The Minister of Labour would like to hear what labour and business representatives and academic experts have to say about workplace productivity, how can labour management and workplace conditions contribute to productivity and how can government help to achieve these goals.

- Research shows that innovative labour-management practices and workplace conditions can contribute to workplace productivity.

- We should be concerned about productivity because ultimately
it allows us to enjoy a higher standard of living and determines our ability to create wealth.

- A healthy and productive workplace contributes to Canada's future economic growth.
