When:
Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011 - 11 a.m.

Where:
SEASONS at Compton
15810 Frailey Avenue, Compton, Calif., 90221

What:
Mercedes Márquez, assistant secretary, community planning development, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, will join affordable housing leaders to celebrate two new communities that were made possible by federal HOME funds. She'll also share her perspective on why it's important for all levels of government to support policy and funding for affordable housing.

SEASONS at Compton and Casa Dominguez (East Rancho Dominquez) both provide the community with affordable living as well as vital resident and social services. SEASONS began welcoming tenants last month and features 84 apartments for fixed-income seniors and residents with developmental disabilities, who will also receive services coordinated by the South Central Los Angeles Regional Center. Casa Dominguez, which opened in 2009 offering 70 homes for low-income families, includes a comprehensive Family Development Center that provides childcare, a health clinic, and a parent resource center for residents and community members. SEASONS and Casa Dominguez improve quality of life for residents while also adding beauty and value to the community.

Both properties are also participants in the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) for Homes certification program. Casa Dominquez, developed by Abode Communities, was awarded LEED Platinum certification in July 2010. SEASONS at Compton, developed by LINC Housing, is expected to achieve a LEED Gold certification.
