Media Advisory: Important Notice to Recreational Boaters

Transat Quebec-St. Malo

QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - July 11, 2008) - The Canadian Coast Guard wishes to inform recreational boaters that safety protocols will be in effect on July 20 for the start of the 2008 Transat Quebec-St. Malo transatlantic race.

In order to ensure the event takes place without incident, boaters interested in attending the race aboard their boats are asked to consult the chart of areas reserved for recreational boaters that is attached to this notice and to comply with the following instructions:

- Navigating in the closed area will be prohibited as of 10:00 a.m. until the two safety boats following the last ship have passed.

- This year's Transat race will have two starts: the first start will be at 11:00 a.m. and the second at 11:30 a.m. The safety boats will follow the last ship of the second start, thereby allowing recreational boaters to gradually re-enter the waterway.

- Speed must be reduced in areas open to recreational boaters.

- Recreational boaters are urged to practise safe boating at all times.

A Notice to Shipping will be transmitted on channels 21B and 83B of the Continuous Marine Broadcast system.
