Media Advisory: Inaugural Season Finale of Canadian Tire Jumpstart Presents the I Love to Skate Program Set for Saturday, Feb. 19

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 18, 2011) - The Ottawa Senators and Canadian Tire Jumpstart, in partnership with the Sens Foundation and the City of Ottawa, announced today that the inaugural season of the Canadian Tire Jumpstart presents I Love To Skate program will conclude on Saturday, Feb. 19, at Scotiabank Place.

The program provides financially disadvantaged children in neighbourhoods across Ottawa with the opportunity to learn how to skate. Saturday's finale will see each of the 393 participants and members of their immediate families enjoy the opportunity to skate on the same ice surface as the Senators. To highlight I Love To Skate's opening season's success, the participants and their families will be joined by dignitaries from Canadian Tire Jumpstart, the Sens Foundation and City of Ottawa to celebrate their success to date.

Canadian Tire Jumpstart's I Love To Skate program has provided an opportunity for nearly 400 children from 27 priority Ottawa neighbourhoods to receive free recreational skating lessons from qualified instructors at outdoor rinks across the city over the course of the last five weeks.

Communities were identified by the City of Ottawa through an application process, which later saw children obtain a voucher which allowed them to visit a local Canadian Tire retailer to purchase the helmet and skates required to participate in the program.

Who: Danielle Robinson, Sens Foundation president; Gilles Parent, Parks, Recreation and Culture Services, City of Ottawa; Dr. Isra Levy, medical officer of health, City of Ottawa; Pierre Hofstatter, Canadian Tire dealer (Perth) and Canadian Tire Jumpstart representative, and Spartacat, the Senators ambassador of fun.

When: Saturday, Feb. 19, at 10:30 a.m.

Where: Scotiabank Place, please use the Gate 3 entrance for building access. Dignitaries will welcome participants at lower Gate 1.

Photo opportunity: Media will have the opportunity to take images of City of Ottawa dignitaries, in addition to Senators and Canadian Tire representatives addressing the first group beginning at 10:30 a.m. at lower Gate 1. The group will then proceed to the zamboni entrance, where dignitaries and volunteers will assist in tying skates and interact with participants prior to the final on-ice skate of the season. Dignitaries and representatives will also be available for interviews after helping tie skates.
