Media Advisory-Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario: St. Catharines Entry a "Rule the Tube" Finalist

CAs Choose Brock University Entry for Their Video Contest

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 14, 2011) - The finalists in the Rule the Tube CA video competition have been announced and now all eyes turn to November 25 when the voting stops and the winners are announced. Among the finalists is Kiran Chandrashekar of Brock University in St. Catharines.

Ontario university and high school students were given a chance to bring out their inner video auteur – whether it's Christopher Nolan serious, Will Ferrell funny or Andy Samberg silly – in the first Rule the Tube CA video competition. The theme is "Why being a Chartered Accountant rocks" and the winning university and high school entry will each get $1,500 in addition to the obvious fame and glory. The finalists' videos can be viewed at:

The finalists are:

  • Kiran Chandrashkar of Brock University for "Welcome to the World"
  • Aki Sugimoto of York University for "21 Reasons"
  • Jeremy Vo of the Schulich School of Business at York University for "CAs: Heroes of the Modern World"

High school:

  • Syed Ali of Gordon Graydon Memorial Secondary School for "A CA's Worth a 1,000 Words"
  • Danny Hoshi of Gordon Graydon Memorial Secondary School for "Danny The CA: The Prequel"
  • Leslie Kwok of Richmond Green Secondary School for "Limitless"

"As part of our overall Rule the World campaign for prospective future CAs, we're giving students a chance to show-off their video-making skills and compete for cash," said Mona Ghiami, Director, Career Information with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. "It's been fun and we had a great time choosing the finalists. Now we're looking forward to getting the public's input on which videos are the best of the best."

A big part of the contest is based on how well people promote their video. The more views, likes and positive ratings received on YouTube, the better, although negative ratings and comments will not be counted. People are invited to vote for their favourite high school and university videos with the winners from each category announced Friday, November 25. Aside from $1,500 for the winners, each of the other finalists will receive $200.

The Rule the Tube video competition – just one more reason why Chartered Accountants rock.
