Media Advisory/Invitation to a Major Exercise in Mississippi

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Dec. 12, 2008) - The 34th and 35th Brigade Groups of the Canadian Forces are inviting media representatives on their planes, from January 7th to 9th 2009, to visit reservists from Quebec who will be taking part in the 2009 NOBLE GUERRIER exercise, which will be held in Mississippi.

This major deployment, taking place at the "Shelby Camp" (Mississippi National Guard) from January 3rd to January 13th, 2009 will allow more than 1,500 part-time CF Members of the province to train in a temperate climate with modern infrastructures adapted to today's reality.

Area defense, peace negotiations, armored reconnaissance, helicopter-born operations, paratroop dropping, combat in urban areas, artillery fire, and so on will be on the training agenda. This training will harden troops volunteering for contemporary missions. This unique opportunity will allow media representatives to discover what military personnel go through when wearing the uniform.

Of course, transportation on a military plane as well as food and sleeping accommodations in dormitories will be provided on the camp by the Canadian Forces from January 7th to January 9th. The places to be assigned are extra seats remaining on a prescheduled flight.

Media interested in visiting (January 7th to 9th, 2009) are asked to send the name and affiliation of their agency as well as the reporters names assigned to this unprecedented event by e-mail. To reserve a seat on the plane, please send your request before December 15th, 2008 to the following address: ian.laporte@forces.gc.ca.

Moreover, we ask that media representatives wishing to meet soldiers before their leaving on January 3rd, 2009, go to the following gathering places between 5:30 am and 8:00 am:
