Media Advisory: IT Professionals Represented by PIPSC Rally Today to Oppose the Harper Government's Outsourcing of Public Services

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Aug. 23, 2013) - Starting at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 13th, hundreds of IT professionals represented by the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC) will hold a rally in the National Capital Region to voice their concerns about the government's increasing use of outsourcing.

The government of Canada spends upwards of $1 billion annually on outsourcing services that could be provided internally at less cost to Canadian taxpayers. Recently, in June of 2013, a $400 million contract was awarded to consolidate the federal government's email systems, a task that could have been completed using existing staff and which caused an uproar within the ranks of federal IT professionals.

Event: Rally to Oppose the Outsourcing of Public Services (Photo Opportunity)
Location: Park de la francophonie, 1 Wellington St (Corner Montcalm St), Gatineau
(Across from the Crowne Plaza Hotel)
Date: Friday, August 23, 2013
Time: 12:00 pm (noon)
Speakers: Speaking on behalf of PIPSC: National President Gary Corbett & CS Group Vice-President Stéphane Aubry
Guest speaker: Nycole Trumel, Member of Parliament for Hull-Aylmer

The Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada represents some 60,000 professionals and scientists across Canada's public sector.
