Media Advisory: Jarkko Ruutu to drive Zamboni down Elgin St. as part of season kick-off

Ruutu, Mayor O'Brien to raise Senators flag at City Hall Festival Plaza on Thursday

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 6, 2010) - The Ottawa Senators, in association with the City of Ottawa and 93.9 BOB FM, will officially welcome the 2010-11 National Hockey League regular season with a ceremony outside Ottawa City Hall. The event will feature Senators player Jarkko Ruutu, who will drive a Zamboni from the corner of Elgin St. and Argyle Ave. to City Hall Festival Plaza.

Where: Procession runs along Elgin St.; from Argyle Ave. to Laurier Ave. (the Sens Mile), and turns right onto Laurier to the city hall's front lawn.

When: Thursday, Oct. 7, from 1:45 p.m. to 2:20 p.m.

Who: Jarkko Ruutu, Ottawa Senators player; Larry O'Brien, mayor of Ottawa; Jeff Kyle, vice-president of marketing, Ottawa Senators; Spartacat, Stuntman and the Shark, 93.9 BOB FM.

What: Radio station 93.9 BOB FM's Stuntman and Shark will lead Ruutu and the Zamboni procession, which will start on Elgin Street at Argyle Ave., traveling along Elgin (the Sens Mile) to Laurier Ave. and then to City Hall Festival Plaza. Participants will then address the crowd and Mayor O'Brien will read a proclamation. The event will conlude at 2:20 p.m., when the Senators flag will be raised over Ottawa City Hall.

Please note: members of the Ottawa Police Service will help lead the procession and direct rolling traffic detours along the procession route.
