Media Advisory: KAIROS-Coast to Coast, Canadians Speak Out for Clean Water-World Water Day March 22, 2007

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - March 21, 2007) -

Attn: Assignment Editors; Environment Editors; Religion, Faith and Values Editors; Foreign Editors.

Canadians in over 30 communities coast to coast will be taking a stand for water rights on March 22, 2007 - World Water Day 2007. KAIROS: Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives, the Council of Canadians, CUPE and many others are joining in a call for access to safe, clean, public water in Canada and around the world. Communities from Vancouver Island to PEI will use local events to demand that the federal government address the growing water crisis globally and here at home.

Canada is one of the few countries continuing to deny water is a human right and participants in rallies, film festivals, and public discussions will ask why. They'll ask their communities to support public control of water and they're calling on the federal government to enforce measures to protect water quality.

Citizens across the country will ask why many continue to buy hundreds of millions of dollars worth of bottled water and fill up landfills with plastic bottles when the vast majority of municipal water systems in Canada provide communities with safe drinking water.

KAIROS is a faith-based social justice organization that works on a wide range of issues in Canada, Africa, Asia Latin America and the Middle East.
