Media Advisory: Kingston hospital staff "give back" to community with donation to United Way

Cheque presentation tomorrow at noon

KINGSTON, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Oct. 12, 2016) - While providing quality supports for patients is the day-to-day focus for Kingston General Hospital (KGH) staff - members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) 1974 - "giving back to our community in many different ways, is very important to us," says local president Mike Rodrigues.

Tomorrow (Thursday, October 13, 2016) at 12:00 noon, CUPE 1974 members will be on hand to present two donation cheques to United Way of Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington (United Way KFLA). Bhavana Varma, United Way KFLA president and others involved in this year's campaign are attending the donation presentation being held by the original KGH, Stuart Street entrance and steps.

CUPE 1974 members took part in a local softball tournament to fundraise a portion of the donation. The union is adding to the money raised, for a total donation of $8,000.

"I'm extremely proud of the CUPE 1974 members who give their time as volunteers to many community initiatives throughout the year," says Rodrigues.
