Media Advisory: Kitchener-Waterloo Community Groups Respond to Startling New Report Showing Ontario is Dead Last in Equality

WATERLOO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 28, 2012) - A cross-Ontario coalition concerned with growing inequality is releasing an unprecedented new report that shows that Ontario has sunk to last place when measured against every important social indicator. In Kitchener-Waterloo, the site of one of Ontario's most contentious byelections, the impacts of government cuts to jobs and public services are particularly hard.

The report, to be released Wednesday by the Ontario Common Front, tracks Ontario's standing on poverty, income inequality, out-of-pocket costs for social programs, wait lists for community services and other various measures.

The principal author of the report will be on hand to answer questions about the findings and community and labour spokespeople, who have launched a K-W Common Front, will highlight the impact of these realities on the communities they represent.

When: Wednesday, August 29 at 1 p.m.
Where: City of Waterloo (Atrium of the Waterloo City Hall)
100 Regina Street St, Waterloo, Ontario (Entrance opposite parking lot)
What: Media Conference to launch new report on income inequality
Who: Len Carter, Waterloo Regional Labour Council
Natalie Mehra, Ontario Health Coalition and Principal Author of the Report
Steve Sachs, United Way of Kitchener-Waterloo/Labour Community Services
Orville Thacker, senior and Kitchener-Waterloo resident

The Ontario Common Front brings together more than 90 community groups and labour unions across Ontario that are working to expose growing inequality and propose workable solutions to fix it. Visit the campaign website: www.WeAreOntario.ca.
