Media Advisory: Launch of 'J'ai le droit de lire' Literacy Campaign 2006 at Library and Archives Canada with Jacques Demers, Champion of LectureOttawa

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - March 20, 2006) - Library and Archives Canada and LectureOttawa invite you to a news conference to announce the launch of the second edition of "J'ai le droit de lire," a popular reading awareness campaign. The news conference will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. in the main lobby of Library and Archives Canada.

The campaign will help to raise funds for LectureOttawa, a program of the Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation (OCRI). Copies of the daily LeDroit will be distributed in exchange for donations.

Michel Benac, spokesperson for the campaign and singer in the group Swing, Daniel Seguin, radio host at CJRC 1150, and Doug Rimmer of Library and Archives Canada will be in attendance.

Media representatives will also have the opportunity to interview Jacques Demers, former head coach of the Montreal Canadiens, via teleconference.

LectureOttawa is a unique partnership between elementary schools and businesses that draws volunteers from the private and public sectors to read one-on-one with children in Ottawa's Francophone schools.
