Staff show appreciation with BBQ tomorrow

BOWMANVILLE, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 28, 2011) - June is seniors' month and front line staff at Bowmanville's Strathaven Lifecare Centre are throwing a party to celebrate the relationship between the home's residents and the staff who care for them. All home's residents, their families and staff are invited to attend tomorrow's (Wednesday, June 29 between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.) BBQ as part of Residents' Appreciation Day events.

The registered practical nurses, personal support workers, dietary staff and others at Strathaven say that a day to show appreciation is equally as important as the advocacy they do on behalf of residents to improve daily hands-on care standards.

The Strathaven staff, members of CUPE 5110 are working with many others province-wide in an effort to urge the province to improve funding for long-term care and to bring in a minimum standard of 3.5 hours daily care to improve residents' quality of life.

"While we celebrate tomorrow, we will also be pushing the province to enact a minimum standard of care of 3.5 hours per patient per day and the funding commitment to back it up," said Candace Rennick, the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Ontario secretary-treasurer who will be attending the BBQ.
