Media Advisory: Liberals set to deepen poverty for less than 0.1% of the budget

Anti-poverty activists to launch search for "Liberals' morals" at press conference Tuesday

ST. CATHARINES, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 2, 2012) - For less than 0.1% of the overall budget, the Liberal government stands poised to deepen the crisis of poverty in Ontario by freezing social assistance and delaying planned increases in child benefits, the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty and the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions/CUPE will say at a St. Catharines media conference on Tuesday, April 3.

WHAT: Media conference on how Liberals are making poverty worse for 0.1% of the budget
WHO: John Clarke, Ontario Coalition Against Poverty
Patti Encinas, CUPE Ontario health care worker,
Vice-President of the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions (OCHU/CUPE)
WHEN: Tuesday, April 3, 2:00 PM
WHERE: Royal Canadian Legion Branch 418, 292-296 Vine Street North, St. Catharines

The Liberal government's proposed 2012 budget will only deepen the crisis of poverty in Ontario. If allowed to pass, the budget will hurt Ontario's economic recovery by taking billions out of the economy and making things worse for people already living in poverty.

Anti-poverty activists will suggest it's time to share a little austerity with the rich - by rolling back previous corporate tax cuts.
